Well, in the case of cilantro, one of the foods on The Huffington Post's list of the 10 Most Polarizing Foods, some people's disdain for the herb may be due to the "soapy" taste some people pick up from the plant. Research has identified two genetic variants linked to perception of cilantro, the most common of which is in a gene involved in sensing smells. Other foods to make the list include licorice, mayonnaise and coconut.
